So Right

Heather's father, Mike, and I have remained very good friends through the years. We talked and visited frequently. They took Kandy in as if I were their son and she was their new daughter.

In 1996 Mike called me up and told me that his sister was going to China to adopt a baby girl. She asked him to escort her on the trip but he couldn't get away from work for the two weeks it was going to take. He asked me if I wanted to fill in. I talked with Kandy and we both agreed that it was an opportunity of a life time and I would be foolish not to jump on the offer. This meant traveling to the other side of the earth and sharing a hotel room with a woman I had never met. And to top it off, she was Heathers aunt (Carol). Talk about trust.

My wife rules. As I started the trip, I flew into San Francisco. Carol picked me up at the airport and immediately mentioned that Heather lived just a few minutes away. "We should stop by and see her". My hands started to get cold as we pulled up to her apartment. I really wasn't expecting this encounter.

As Heather answered the door, I felt a huge burden lift from my shoulders. I saw her in a completely different light. She was no longer the teenage girl I had fallen in love with. She was now a woman on a path in life that was much different my own. After we said hello, we reminisced for a bit. I told her about Kandy and she told me about her fiance.

Who would have ever thought that this situation would present itself. We talked a for about an hour when Heather had to leave for work. As we said goodbye, she apologized for hurting me. She said she never meant to break my heart. That didn't change the fact that she did. It was at that moment that I truly realized how lucky I am to have my incredible wife. I wrote this song to capture what I hoped Heather felt that day. I don't wish bad thoughts upon her. I never imagined that she would hear this song. I only want to share my story.
